General Summary:

The Trade Compliance Specialist/Logistics Coordinator is responsible to ensure import transactions meet U.S. Customs regulations.  This position plays a vital role in coordinating with foreign suppliers, customs brokers and U.S. Customs to ensure correct international import and export declarations are made to government agencies.  Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for the ongoing development, administration, and operations of Winsert’s Import/Export compliance program.  In addition, this position will be responsible for facilitating all global compliance standards.

Essential Job Functions Include:

  • Daily communication with Customer Service, Finance, Sales, Purchasing/Sourcing, Wrap & Ship

  • Serve as Customs Subject Matter Expert for Winsert, Inc

  • Responsible for ensuring legal compliance and providing export administration and control within government rules and regulations, including appropriate licensing for shipments

  • Determines and maintains appropriate import and export classification (Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Schedule B, Export Control Classification Number, United States Munitions List), country of origin and value information for Winsert products and services

  • Work with appropriate departments to identify & classify proper HTS codes

  • Supports import transactions as required for Assist Declarations, Antidumping and Countervailing Duties, Preferential trade agreements, USMCA certificate issuance, Free Trade Agreements, etc.

  • Participates in import and/or export compliance reviews and interface with brokers/freight forwarders to insure proper declarations to government agencies

  • Conducts regular review of import documentation and conducts compliance reviews of import procedures

  • Answers import and export related questions

  • Conduct periodic documentation reviews to identify potential areas of international trade compliance vulnerability and implement corrective action plans as deemed necessary

  • Review and work with finance on freight invoices

  • Understand your role with KPI targets: safety, people, culture, customer needs, quality and on-time delivery

Secondary Job Functions:

  • Provide customer support at the desk level to all internal and external customers, vendors, suppliers, agents and government agencies to ensure coordination and logistics of shipment

  • Select carrier to be used for shipment and prepare documents for carrier

  • Expedite product - Secondary

  • Knowledge of general freight forwarding terms and standards

  • Complete all required documentation to process all International, Hazardous Goods, and any other special shipment

  • Process COO certs, USMCA Documents, and all other COO requests for customers

  • Be a resource for your customer on transportation needs, ie: schedule trucks, tracking, quoting, etc.

  • Participate in Continuous Improvement Projects and help reduce cost year-over-year

  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working experience with Customs Act and ITAR & EAR regulations is preferred

  • Working experience with USMCA and other Free Trade Agreements is preferred

  • Experience with US export licensing regulations and process, including interaction with US Customs Office

  • Knowledge of international import/export processes

  • Willing to attend appropriate seminars, training, etc. to remain current in new developments in import/export compliance

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Solid problem solving skills

  • Good interpersonal skills required

  • Good communication skills – verbal and nonverbal. Clear, effective and directive communicator

  • Prior Importing and Exporting experience helpful

  • Excellent business writing, editing and proofreading skills

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to actively move through office space to work with staff

  • Vision must be correctable to allow reading/viewing of documents and computer screen

  • Hearing must be correctable to allow extensive use of telephone and voicemail as well as participate in discussions among large groups

  • Coordination must allow performance of experiments and required development of new machinery

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • 1-2 years of experience in import/export compliance preferred
